Healing for Humanity:
A Human Rights Vigil on the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

dec 9 event updated flyer

When: Saturday, December 9th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Where: JFK Memorial Plaza - 646 Main Street, Dallas 75202

In light of the upcoming 75th anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration for Human Rights, an inaugural Human Rights Vigil will be held on the eve of this anniversary, Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, from 5:00–7:00 PM at the JFK Memorial Plaza, 646 Main Street, Dallas 75202 (please note updated venue). This vigil is organized by American Muslims for Palestine, Jewish Voice for Peace, Dallas Peace & Justice Center, Dallas for Change, Asian Texans for Justice, Emgage Action, Somos Tejas, in addition to several coalition partners. The vigil program includes interfaith prayers, reflections by community leaders, and a display honoring the lost lives of innocent civilians. The event will conclude with a special tribute to the children of Gaza, led by local children from across North Texas.

The objective of this interfaith vigil is to raise awareness of the extensive humanitarian violations perpetrated against the people of Palestine, including the deliberate targeting of innocent women and children, schools, refugee camps, hospitals and houses of worship. This vigil brings together a diverse community of people to highlight the need for a lasting ceasefire and a permanent solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine. The articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights outline fundamental human rights that must be universally protected, and the path to conflict resolution requires the direct application of these principles to the Israeli occupation and apartheid in the region. This vigil aims to confront our distorted reality in which only certain humans from privileged nations have rights while the majority of people around the world do not.

RSVPs are appreciated so we can determine how many candles and refreshments will be needed for the vigil.
